The City of Derby’s new £30m Council House was officially opened by the Mayor of Derby, Cllr Lisa Higginbottom on Monday 17th December 2012.
A short opening ceremony took place on the steps to the Council House on Corporation Street to celebrate the completion of this outstanding building and to mark its reopening.
The building has been designed to achieve an ‘A +’ rated Energy Performance Certificate and to be BREEAM ‘Excellent’. Some of the buildings sustainable initiatives include; Hydro electrical power (powered by the River Derwent); adiabatic cooling; rainwater harvesting and solar panels.
The building will now be home to more than 1900 council staff as well as being open to the public, community groups, voluntary groups and other public sector agencies.
