Corstorphine + Wright are excited to announce that our scheme for Harpur Centre in Bedford got given the green light at the planning committee last night!

When complete, the development will contribute towards the regeneration of Bedford Town Centre, as well as improve the shopper’s experience.

Our designs will help modernise the 200,000sqft shopping centre transforming it with new double height entrances and new façade treatments on both Midland Road and Horne Lane.

We have also taken into consideration the relationship between the shopping centre and the grade II* listed façade. The façade was designed by Edward Blore for the Bedford Modern School but became part of the shopping centre in the 1970’s. Our designs include glazed links on both sides to create a light connection to the listed façade.

As well as external changes, interior improvements will be made including the removal of the spiral ramp, making way for a new stair and glass elevator. The entrance from the basement car park and further general improvements to the interior finishes will update the centre and give it a more modern feel.
