Architecture 519 (now Corstorphine + Wright, Leeds)  is delighted that Leeds Skelton Lake Motorway Service Area for Extra MSA has now received outline planning permission, with praise for the design, from Leeds City Council.

The design of the ‘new concept’ motorway service area includes a sweeping ribbon roof over a facility building and 100 bed hotel. This will be constructed from glu-lam timber and covered with a living roof to reflect the surrounding landscape and create dynamic internal spaces.

The facility building contains a double height central atrium space, a wide range of food and ancillary retail outlets, a business centre and community facilities. A viewing area is included in the scheme to take advantage of views across Skelton Lake and external landscaping proposals have been developed to enhance the existing green spaces.
