Corstorphine & Wright has appointed Neil Carter as our new Head of Digital to aid in the practice’s digital transformation of internal procedures.

Neil brings more than three decades of digital construction experience to the role, having previously held a senior position at another UK practice and was part of a team that introduced Revit into the UK market – prior to Autodesk’s acquisition of the software. Neil has also provided specialist digital construction consultancy services to several UK architecture practices, where he assisted in revenue growth by advising top-performing digital teams on technology, building information modelling (BIM) and data management.

Neil’s appointment comes at a time when we are making a significant investment in our 11 UK-wide studios, to bring them all in line with the international standard ISO 19650. This standard is for managing information over the whole life cycle of a built asset using BIM.

As Head of Digital, Neil will focus primarily on the practice’s digital growth, supporting Corstorphine & Wright with our ambition to transform and enhance performance by increasing efficiencies, improving productivity and encouraging greater collaboration among project stakeholders through the use of digital construction methodologies.

There will be a significant investment in IT infrastructure to enable us to provide project deliverables faster and smarter without compromising on the quality of our design work. Neil’s remit is to align digital production standards and strategies across the whole practice, develop and implement digital processes to reduce repetitive tasks and streamline the design workflow.

Mike Lampard, Group Director, commented: “The creation of the new Head of Digital role and Neil’s appointment demonstrate a significant investment in our commitment to a sustainable digital culture within the practice. Neil’s impressive and extensive experience in digital construction and introducing new, streamlined methods of working, is directly aligned to our growth plan to support our teams internally with skill development and services to our clients.”

On his appointment, Neil stated: “It is a pleasure to join Corstorphine & Wright. For this move in my career, it was important to me that I join a company with a strong purpose, great people and an exceptional design ethos. I have worked on introducing and improving digital ways of working for many years, and through improving data management and collaboration at Corstorphine & Wright, we will deliver greater efficiency throughout each stage of our projects.”

As part of Neil’s role, he will develop a new step-by-step process of improved digital information management to achieve better business outcomes across the design process. Establishing a vision that is intrinsically linked to Corstorphine & Wrights business goals and philosophy to fully immerse BIM and digital construction into the culture of the practice.
