We are pleased to announce that a full planning application for Lancaster Wharf in the Gun Quarter in Birmingham has been submitted this week.

Located at a key gateway to Birmingham City Centre next to the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal, the proposals will deliver 266 new high quality BTR, 1 and 2 bed apartments. The scheme will feature a generous resident’s lounge, garden lounge and resident’s canal facing external landscaped terraces at ground level. At rooftop level (23) a resident’s club room and roof terrace will offer 360 degree panoramic city-wide views. A basement provides 28 car parking spaces, with 23 cycle spaces and further dedicated secure cycle store at ground level for 92 cycles.

Rising to 23 storeys, Lancaster Wharf will be a unique form on the city’s developing skyline. The tower creates a new focal point for the Gun Quarter with a distinct and unique building articulated at the corners to emphasise the site’s key status, whilst positively contributing to the existing cityscape of tall buildings.

Engaging with the Canal and Rivers Trust has informed the design, incorporating green spaces visible from the canal, maintaining access to the canal edge, and incorporating a new landscaped scheme at the heart of the development. Use of materials across the scheme has been carefully selected to reflect and harmonise with the history and character of the immediate context.

The proposals re-engage the site with the city, turning what is a secure storage facility with no public presence to a highly sustainable and desirable building with rentable apartments focused around the existing Birmingham and Fazeley Canal. The existing pavement is re-animated with active frontages and architecture in keeping with the context.

Subject to receiving planning consent, construction is expected to start in the last quarter of 2020.
