Corstorphine + Wright were appointed by Keay Homes (Long Island Exchange) Limited to prepare design proposals for the redevelopment of the Long Island Exchange site in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire.
The proposals consisted of 32 high quality dwellings, with basement car parking and a communal landscaped courtyard. The development focussed on providing family housing, with an emphasis on large two bedroom dwellings.
The character of the design proposal was developed to enhance and be sensitive to the local context. The main block facing the road promoted a modern aesthetic using a mixture of contemporary and traditional materials, whilst the rear blocks were designed using familiar forms to bring symmetry to the street frontages.
