Situated opposite Swansea rail station, the site in Mariner Street will be transformed into a modern student accommodation and commercial development. The proposed 17-storey tower development will house 780 student bed spaces across a range of different sized apartments and studios, as well as a courtyard and social space on the first floor. The ground floor will host various commercial retailers as well as the student reception point.
Unanimously granted approval last year, the scheme is part of the Council’s regeneration project to revitalise the High Street and town centre. The project aims to have more people working in, living in and enjoying the city centre. The proposed development assists Swansea’s regeneration plans, and will also help meet the increased demands for student accommodation resulting from the expansion of the city’s two universities.
The new development is expected to be open in time for the start of the 2021 academic year, and will be a landmark, both for those arriving by train and as part of the new city skyline.
Planning permission was granted in October 2018.
