Corstorphine + Wright was successfully appointed by the West Midlands Regional Health Authority as part of a planning development and disposal team to consultant on the 80 acre Monyhull Hospital site in Birmingham.
Knowledge and expertise in the planning and design of mixed use residential schemes was key to the identification and appraisal of the constraints and opportunities which influenced the development of the hospital site.
C+W compiled an application for a new masterplan which addressed key structural elements of density, layout, access, highways, drainage, landscaping and general design. The successful masterplanning of the site helped secure outline planning consent and the approval of the planning brief and section 106 agreement.
C+W was also appointed by the Regional Health Authority to secure listed building consent for the renovation and conversion of Monyhull Hall, and by South Birmingham Mental Health Trust to prepare detail design and obtain planning consent for a sheltered residential development on the site in the form of six group homes.
These proposals were integrated into the masterplan as part of the major resettlement programme for people with learning disabilities living in long stay accommodation on the site.
