Rushey Mead School is a 1500 pupil secondary school that specialises in sports, maths and science and is located to the north of Leicester city centre.
Corstorphine + Wright worked together with Miller Construction, Leicester City Council and representatives from Rushey Mead School on this BSF Wave Two project, comprising a remodelling and rebuilding of the existing campus to create a school for the future.
Our design provides a campus solution linked by a series of covered spaces that both connect the blocks and create external teaching areas.
A part of the design development for this project was to maximise new build space rather than spend money on existing buildings that were inefficient in both their space utilisation and energy use.
By taking an innovative approach the team has enabled the school to have a much-improved facility comprising a higher percentage of new build than initially anticipated.
