NewRiver Retail acquired the Martlets Shopping Centre in Burgess Hill in November 2010.
Through detailed consultation, support was gained from Mid-Sussex District Council and Burgess Hill Town Council to bring forward a masterplan to revitalise the centre.
Corstorphine + Wright was appointed to prepare a phased scheme, the first phase of which will include the refurbishment of a number of existing units, and construction of 7,400 sq ft of new retail space.
The second phase will create 140,000 sq ft of new retail and restaurant units, a 36,000 sq ft Cinema, a 63 bedroom hotel and 150 residential units with an additional 162 car parking spaces plus basement parking for residents. The vision also included enhancement of the public realm and the urban environment of Burgess Hill.
