The Orion Building represents the successful development of a key strategic site in the heart of Birmingham. At the junction of Navigation Street and Suffolk Street Queensway – a primary artery running north/south through the city – and located opposite the Mailbox, the development comprises 346 apartments across 26 floors with full concierge facilities, underground parking, and retail and leisure amenities.
Corstorphine + Wright were appointed by Crosby Lend Lease to work in collaboration with the interior and fashion designer John Rocha in the delivery of this successful example of urban regeneration.
The palette of materials was selected to reference the urban context and includes brickwork, steelwork, a terracotta walling system, render and glazing.
An element of the original Victorian façade onto John Bright Street has been retained and integrated into the new development, with amenity spaces for residents designed in the form of landscaped courtyards and roof gardens.
