The Belfry Sutton Coldfield, UK

We were appointed by Vinci Construction to deliver the architecture and interiors for The Belfry Resort Hotel and Conference Building.
Commissioned by Goldman Sachs and Cedar Capital Partners, the project, completed in June 2025, introduced a 149-room hotel and a state-of-the-art conference suite for up to 875 attendees, all within a world-class golfing environment.

The guestrooms are strategically positioned to maximise views of the golf course, featuring recessed and projecting balconies and the versatility to convert into hospitality suites for major events.
The conference facilities aspire to elevate The Belfry’s national profile by offering a modern, well-equipped venue that not only meets modern requirements but also reflects the setting’s golfing heritage.
Close collaboration with the contractor and other consultants ensured deadlines were met without compromising quality.

Interior Design
The client had a clear vision for the interiors of this project.
Our role was to apply our expertise to refine details, enhance practicality, and bring the design to life with consistency and quality.

Key features such as wall panelling, colour palettes, and material choices were retained to preserve the hotel’s established identity, with subtle updates introduced to improve functionality without straying from the agreed aesthetic

Despite joining the project at a later stage, our interiors team were able to:
Resolve Legacy Issues
We identified and rectified missing or incorrect details from the previous design, such as door detailing and fire safety provisions. For example, we addressed non-compliance in the setting out and finishes around escape routes to ensure full regulatory compliance. We also coordinated structural elements for the vertical folding wall.

Adapt to Architectural Changes
As architectural adjustments were made, the interiors team developed complementary solutions that preserved the client’s design intent.

Enhance Functionality
While the conference suite design was already established, the original details lacked sufficient coordination with other elements in the space. We re-evaluated the design to make it workable, refining and integrating structural requirements to support functionality. This included adding and coordinating structural elements to provide suitable rigging points in the ceiling, enabling suspended items for a variety of event types and ensuring the space could be constructed as intended.

Our Integrated Architecture and Interiors Approach
The client faced some challenges with the previous design team, including coordination issues that led to misaligned designs and communication difficulties.

We were brought on at Stage 4 due to our capability to provide both architecture and interior design services under one roof, ensuring a more cohesive approach.
The project operated under extremely tight deadlines, with completion required ahead of the Betfred British Master Golf Tournament and a scheduled wedding.
Additionally, minor golf tournaments took place while work was ongoing, causing brief pauses in progress for a couple of days. To minimise disruption, all works were phased strategically during the ongoing tournaments.
Our in-house model offered key advantages, including a shared Revit environment that allowed both disciplines to work within a live model for real-time updates.

The client’s traffic-light review system also required teams to cross-check each other’s drawings, which can often slow progress.
For us, this process was highly efficient: because our teams worked side by side, we could flag issues and resolve them immediately, rebalancing priorities in real time and ensuring updates were accurate and delivered without delay.

Results and Futureproofing
The project has received positive feedback from both the client and guests. Events hosted in the space have highlighted its functionality and design quality.
Post-completion, we made enhancements to the business lounge to increase occupancy, demonstrating the adaptability of the design.
The conference suite’s flexible layout, featuring vertical folding wall and outdoor connections, positions The Belfry as a premier venue for events of varying sizes. The interiors’ seamless integration with the architecture ensures a cohesive and modern experience that complements the resort’s golfing heritage.
