A Landmark Moment: Rob Burrow Centre for MND Officially Opens Its Doors

We are proud to celebrate the official opening of the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in Leeds — a project that represents hope, innovation, and compassion for those affected by MND.

Opened by the Prince of Wales, the centre is the UK’s first purpose-built facility dedicated entirely to MND care, research, and education. It was inspired by the vision of rugby league legend Rob Burrow CBE and his consultant Dr Agam Jung, whose determination to improve patient experiences has been the driving force behind this building.

Our Role as Architects

As the appointed architects, we worked closely with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Leeds Hospitals Charity, patients and their families along with the wider project team to design a centre that is both functional and deeply human providing:

A welcoming, non-clinical environment that feels calm and supportive

Accessible spaces tailored to the needs of patients and families

Flexible facilities for clinical care, research, and education

Community-focused areas that encourage connection and holistic wellbeing

Every design decision was guided by the principle of treating patients as people, not conditions. The centre’s layout, materials, and atmosphere were all carefully considered to reduce stress, promote dignity, and foster a sense of belonging.

A Lasting Legacy

The Rob Burrow Centre for MND is more than a building — it is a legacy of Rob’s courage, Kevin Sinfield’s tireless fundraising, and the generosity of thousands of supporters who rallied behind the cause. It stands as a beacon of progress in healthcare design and a symbol of what can be achieved when communities come together.

We are honoured to have contributed to this project and proud to see it open its doors to patients, families, and researchers.
