Rob Burrow Centre Shortlisted for 2026 Healthcare Estates Award

We are delighted to announce that the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease has been shortlisted for New Build Project of the Year at the prestigious 2026 Healthcare Estates Awards. The project is one of just eight schemes recognised in the category, celebrating excellence in the delivery of new healthcare facilities across the UK.

The shortlist recognition marks another significant milestone for a project that began as a vision shared by rugby league legend Rob Burrow CBE and his consultant, Dr Agam Jung, following Rob’s diagnosis with motor neurone disease (MND).

Their ambition was to create a specialist centre in Leeds that would provide a truly holistic, patient-centred environment for people living with MND and their families. Designed to be calm, welcoming and accessible, the centre brings together multidisciplinary clinical teams, therapists, support groups and drop-in services under one roof, creating a supportive community as well as a place of treatment.

Funded through the incredible efforts of Leeds Hospitals Charity, which set out to raise almost £7 million, the project sought to turn Rob’s vision into reality: a place offering not only outstanding medical care, but also compassion, dignity and understanding for everyone affected by MND.

Five years after the original concept was formed, the dream became a reality. The purpose-built Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease opened in November 2025 and is now providing specialist care, comfort and support to patients and their families. The centre was officially visited by The Prince of Wales, fulfilling a promise made to Rob.

We are incredibly proud to have designed and been involved in delivering this landmark facility and are honoured that the project has been recognised on the national stage.

The winners of the Healthcare Estates Awards will be announced at the awards dinner on 13 October 2026 at The Kimpton Clocktower Hotel, Manchester.
