Corstorphine + Wright was appointed by 10M Group to transform a site occupied by a vehicle showroom and garage adjacent to the High Street in Digbeth, Birmingham.
The exciting new build proposal introduces 80 new apartments in a mix of 1 and 2 beds, with 2 bed duplex apartments at upper floors. 10% of the accommodation is designated as affordable housing. Upper duplex apartments benefit from private terraces with balconies provided to apartments at levels 1 – 6. A residents’ roof garden terrace and ground floor lounge have been provided with basement car parking for 9 vehicles and over 80 bicycles. Throughout the development, step free routes are available despite the challenge of an uplifted ground floor.
Responding to the location’s industrial heritage, the 7 storey design incorporates a “saw tooth” roof arrangement which creates a striking appearance. Whilst this adds texture and rhythm to the primary elevation acting as a marker for the development, the scheme maintains scale and massing as to not intrude on the existing streetscape.
The site benefits from close proximity to public transport links and is located near to the proposed metro tram extension line and Birmingham HS2 station. Digbeth itself is an area of significant change with Apex Lofts ideally located to maximise on Digbeth’s current and future offerings.
