We are proud to celebrate a fantastic evening at the Insider Yorkshire Property Awards, where the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease was named winner of the Design Excellence Award.
Rob Burrow Centre for MND Wins Design Excellence at the Yorkshire Property Awards
Back to News & Insights
The award recognises the exceptional design quality and innovation behind the centre, a groundbreaking facility that has redefined expectations for specialist healthcare environments. Delivered in close collaboration with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and the wider project team, the centre was conceived to provide a compassionate and highly supportive setting for people living with MND and their families.
In selecting the project as this year’s winner, the judging panel commented:
“The Rob Burrow Centre is a first of its kind in the UK. The brief for Corstorphine & Wright was for a calm, dignified setting that balances the clinical accommodation with non-clinical spaces that feel welcoming, familiar and domestic in character. It has also been designed to challenge typical approaches to healthcare for a community facility that supports patients and families.”
This recognition reflects the project’s ambition to place people, wellbeing and dignity at the heart of healthcare design. Every aspect of the centre was carefully considered to create an environment that feels welcoming, supportive and connected to the needs of patients, families, clinicians and carers.
The evening also brought further recognition for both the project and our practice. Corstorphine & Wright was Highly Commended in the Architectural Practice of the Year category, while the Rob Burrow Centre for MND was also Highly Commended in the Sustainability & Social Impact Award category.
Notably, Corstorphine & Wright was the only organisation across all award categories to receive multiple commendations alongside a winning project, highlighting the breadth of impact being delivered through our work across the region.
These accolades are a testament to the collaborative efforts of everyone involved in bringing the Rob Burrow Centre to life. We would like to thank every organisation and individual who contributed to creating a facility that is making a meaningful difference to the lives of people affected by motor neurone disease.
Congratulations to all the winners and finalists recognised at this year’s Yorkshire Property Awards.
