We are delighted to announce that Surika Carvalho has been selected to speak at Education Estates 2026, the UK’s leading event for everyone involved in the planning, design, construction and management of educational environments. Taking place on 20-21 October 2026 at Manchester Central, the conference brings together sector leaders to share knowledge, best practice and innovation across the education estate.
Joining an industry-leading panel, Surika’s presentation will explore the unique challenges and opportunities involved in designing secure children’s homes and how these highly specialised environments can support positive outcomes for some of society’s most vulnerable young people.
Surika will also discuss the importance of embedding trauma-informed practice, sustainability and operational understanding into the design process from the earliest stages. When combined with robust safeguarding and security measures, these principles help create environments that provide safety, stability and opportunity for young people while supporting the professionals who care for them.
By sharing project experience, lessons learned and emerging best practice, the session aims to contribute to the ongoing evolution of secure children’s home design and the creation of environments that truly meet the needs of those who use them.
