By Michael Lampard – 28th October 2021

It is with great pride that we announce the promotion of our Practice Manager, Suzie Ross, to the brand new position of Head of Operations.

As the first female to head up UK-wide operations, Suzie will play a key part in helping to shape the strategic direction and culture of the business moving forward and will be fundamental in developing a strong platform for future growth ensuring, as a practice, we adopt a consistent culture and practice values whilst driving operational performance.

Developing our people

Having begun her journey at Corstorphine & Wright in 2011, Suzie has held a number of roles with the practice, progressing her skills each step of the way. A true testament to our commitment to internal development, Suzie has been promoted through the ranks from Office Manager, to this newly created senior post which will work with the Board of Directors to achieve its bold ambitions.

We’re incredibly proud of our culture of development and investing in our people. Suzie commented: “I’ve had the opportunities to learn and grow in the past decade, with excellent training and support. Unquestionably, Corstorphine & Wright makes a strong investment in its people. The culture of the practice is to care about each team member’s career progression.

Our internal development programmes range from extensive training opportunities for all of our 200 strong team, to facilitating mentorships and on-the-job learning. We encourage all of our people to pick up new skills across a number of specialisms and further develop their careers. It is important strategic decisions such as this that contributes to our status as one of the UK’s leading architectural practices.

Championing Diversity in the Industry

We are privileged to have Suzie’s expertise and in-depth knowledge of both our practice and the industry itself. As passionate advocates of learning and development, we support all of our team members in their career goals.

The construction industry is often viewed as a male-dominated sector – which then contributes to an ongoing issue of encouraging young women to enter the field.

Thankfully, the industry is embracing change – and as we appoint more and more women to leadership positions, we plan further contribute to this change, creating a more positive balance in the AEC industry.

Simon Jones, Group Director commented on Suzie’s promotion:

“The practice has always been at the forefront of championing equality and diversity, and Suzie is testament to our commitment to creating greater inclusion and value to our teams. With a strong focus on internal development, we actively encourage personal development across all specialisms as well as facilitating mentorships both internally and externally.

“These important approaches to development have helped to further the skills of our teams, and Suzie is a prime example, having developed from an Office Manager to this senior level position, Suzanne is indeed an asset to Corstorphine & Wright.”
