Lunar Rise is the development of 517-mixed 1 and 2 bed apartments in the regeneration area of Digbeth, Birmingham. The overall design comprises of 3 separate buildings with two 10 storey blocks facing High Street, Digbeth, which are punctuated by a 24 storey building at the high point of the site.
This residential scheme will have amenity space and residential parking, together with retail and commercial space at ground floor. The proposals will create a new focal point for Digbeth with a re-animated street scene, creating new high quality apartments focused around south facing courtyards and elevated views back towards the city centre.
The design inspiration has been taken from Birmingham’s long-standing relationship with the Lunar Society, formed at the height of the Industrial Revolution. The layered façade creates depth and shadow from balcony spaces and provides an opportunity to combine the heritage of the site and the legacy of the development whilst using the influence of Chinese calligraphy to generate a unique identity to the buildings.
