Working for Barwood, Corstorphine + Wright designed and delivered a new Sainsbury’s food store, which forms an essential part of the broader redevelopment of Wellesbourne Distribution Park.
Wellesbourne suffered from extremely limited provisions for food shopping, which meant that residents had to undertake long journey to the nearby towns of Stratford upon Avon and Warwick.
Our brief was to create a sustainable, attractive, high quality store that would meet the needs of shoppers in the surrounding areas, boost the local economy and add to the redevelopment Wellesbourne.
In order to become the food store of choice for local shoppers and attract customers from nearby villages and neighbourhoods, it was essential that the new Sainsbury’s was of the right scale and provided a wide variety of product lines.
The new store provides approximately 37,749 sq ft of floorspace along with more than 250 car parking spaces, a landscaped frontage and excellent access routes for pedestrians, cars and cyclists. High quality metal cladding and glazing have been used to create a contemporary exterior and a light, bright interior shopping space.
Overall, the proposals for Wellesbourne Distribution Park seek to regenerate a run down employment area with substantial investment to create up to 1000 new secure jobs, which the food store will contribute significantly to.
